documenting, publishing, and protecting his work for future generations.

Dr. Ali Al-Wardi’s Intellectual Project

Our Commitment

Since 1990, our work with Dr Ali Al-Wardi’s writings has been guided by a long-term institutional commitment to preserving, publishing and advancing his intellectual legacy within the Arab world and beyond.

From the outset, our engagement was structured around stewardship rather than short-term commercial considerations. The objective was clear: to ensure that Al-Wardi’s body of work would be preserved with academic integrity, produced to high editorial standards, and made accessible to a broader readership in a manner consistent with its scholarly significance.

Regional Expansion & Intellectual Reach

At the time we began publishing his works, Al-Wardi’s recognition remained largely concentrated only within Iraq, recognised widely among academic audiences. Through sustained publication, regional distribution, scholarly outreach and engagement with Arab media platforms, his work was introduced to a wider intellectual sphere across the world.

Formal Custodianship

Between 1990 and 1995, this collaboration developed into a formalised and enduring custodial relationship. In the final year of his life, Dr Ali Al-Wardi executed an official agreement appointing us as the permanent custodians of his intellectual estate, affirming institutional continuity and long-term responsibility for the preservation of his work.

Rights Protection & Long-Term Stewardship

Over the years, we have maintained rigorous oversight of publication standards, rights management and distribution across multiple jurisdictions. Where necessary, we have pursued formal legal measures to protect the integrity of authorised editions and uphold intellectual property standards in the region.

Our work remains anchored in cultural and scholarly responsibility. The preservation of Dr Ali Al-Wardi’s intellectual contribution is not treated as a commercial catalogue, but as a sustained academic and publishing mandate designed to ensure its continuity for future generations.

WHEREWE LEAD

Since 1990, our work has been grounded in scholarly integrity, rigorous editing, and a commitment to enduring knowledge.

Academic Documentation and Scholarly Translation

As part of our custodial responsibility, we undertook the formal documentation and publication of Dr Ali Al-Wardi’s academic credentials and scholarly works to ensure their accuracy, accessibility and preservation within the Arab intellectual sphere.

For the first time, certified copies of his Master’s and doctoral degrees were obtained directly from the University of Texas at Austin and prepared for publication in Arabic. These documents had not previously been widely available, and their formal presentation provided authoritative academic verification of his qualifications.

The translation process was conducted to rigorous scholarly standards. Certified documents were professionally translated, reviewed and subjected to linguistic and academic verification prior to publication. The Master’s degree documentation was reviewed under the supervision of Dr Rafid Al-Asadi, and the doctoral thesis translation underwent structured editorial and academic assessment to ensure precision, clarity and fidelity to the original text.

The work Theory of Knowledge was similarly reassessed to meet appropriate academic standards. Following an initial review, the translation was reassigned and completed under the supervision of Dr Anis Abdul-Khaliq Mahmoud in accordance with established scholarly criteria.

These editions are now available in carefully prepared Arabic translations that preserve the intellectual substance, terminology and analytical character of Dr Ali Al-Wardi’s original work, ensuring their integrity within contemporary academic discourse.

Archival Consolidation of the Intellectual Record (1944–1995)

Under our custodial mandate, a formal archival programme was established to consolidate the dispersed intellectual record of Dr Ali Al-Wardi spanning the years 1944 to 1995.

His articles, interviews, scholarly contributions and public interventions had been published across decades of Iraqi and Arab newspapers and periodicals, without a centralised bibliography or verified archive. The absence of a structured record necessitated systematic source tracing, verification and academic review.

A dedicated research team, led by Professor Dr Tariq Nafi Al-Hamadani and operating under direct institutional supervision, conducted extensive archival investigation and textual authentication over a fifteen-year period.

This work culminated in the publication of two principal collections:

  • The Intellectual Works of Dr Ali Al-Wardi in Iraqi and Arab Newspapers and Journals – Articles (three volumes)
  • The Intellectual Works of Dr Ali Al-Wardi in Iraqi and Arab Newspapers and Journals – Interviews (three parts compiled into a single volume)

Archival work remains ongoing through the forthcoming volume Supplement to Al-Wardi’s Intellectual Works, comprising additional research papers and articles identified subsequent to the initial editions.

Through sustained institutional commitment, dedicated research coordination and long-term editorial oversight, we consolidated Dr Ali Al-Wardi’s dispersed writings into a definitive and academically structured record. The body of work now exists in its organised and authoritative form as a direct result of our custodial stewardship, consistent with his standing in modern Arab intellectual history.

International Translations and Global Reach

Selected works of Dr Ali Al-Wardi have been translated into major world languages. To extend the academic reach of his work beyond the Arab world, we have overseen the translation of selected publications into major international languages, thereby expanding his presence within global scholarly discourse.

His landmark study A Study of the Nature of Iraqi Society was translated into Japanese, introducing his analysis of Iraqi social structure to an East Asian scholarly audience.

An English-language volume, published under the title Understanding Iraq, presents a carefully structured exposition of his interpretation of Iraqi society for international readers.

Portions of Glimpses from the Modern History of Iraq were translated into Indonesian, further expanding access to his historical and sociological thought within Southeast Asia.

Through these editions, Dr Ali Al-Wardi’s work has moved beyond regional circulation and entered broader scholarly conversation. These translations contribute to positioning his contribution to sociology and social thought within a wider international academic context.
