Al-A‘māl al-Fikriyya, by Ali Al-Wardi –
Newspapers and magazines represent an important historical source, particularly when studying the intellectual life and academic career of Dr. Ali Al-Wardi. Throughout his career, Al-Wardi conducted numerous interviews and conversations with Iraqi and Arab newspapers and magazines, in addition to regularly publishing articles in which he presented his ideas and evolving intellectual perspectives.
One of the most prominent publications in which Al-Wardi frequently wrote and participated in interviews was Alif Baa Magazine, first issued by the General Establishment for Press on 22 May 1968. Al-Wardi regularly contributed to this magazine and engaged in interviews with its correspondents during the 1970s and in subsequent decades.
Alif Baa was known as a weekly magazine, and its publication represented a significant development in the field of weekly journalism. Its content was not limited to political coverage; it also played an important role in cultural and literary discourse. Its pages featured commentary, news, criticism, interviews, research, essays, discussions, poetry, and short stories, which contributed to its wide readership and popularity.
Another publication of considerable importance was Afaq Arabiya (Arab Horizons), issued by the Ministry of Information in September 1975. The magazine conducted numerous interviews with Dr. Ali Al-Wardi, including some of his earliest interviews with the publication during the 1970s.
Dr. Al-Wardi’s contributions also extended to writing and participating in intellectual discussions organized by several well-known Iraqi journals, including Al-Muthaqqaf Al-Arabi Magazine, published by the Palestinian Studies Center in Baghdad, and the Journal of Social Sciences, issued by the Iraqi Association for Social Sciences in the late 1970s. Al-Wardi was a member of the editorial board of this quarterly journal.
Iraqi sociologist, philosopher, and one of the most influential Arab intellectuals of the 20th century.
